As we know the largest Roman numeral is M and we can only. By stacking three of the same numeral together, the largest possible numeral is MMMCMXCIX, which is 3999 in integer.

To write a Roman numeral bigger than MMMCMXCIX, which is 3999, the scientists agreed to raw a line across the top of a numeral to multily it by 1000.

For example, the Roman numeral V̅ is for 5000 because it is V x 1000, which is 5 x 1,000 = 5,000. Similarly, M̅ is 1,000,000 because it is M x 1000, which is 1,000 x 1,000 = 1,000,000.
