It was originally used with the Hebrew alphabet and it is quite simple. It simply reverses the alphabet and transposes the message onto the reverse alphabet. For example, the string "ABC" would be encrypted as "ZYX". If you encrypt a string twice, it returns to it's original string, which is why this calculator works both as an encrypter and decrypter.
